WIN A WEEK’S STAY ON THE ISLE OF TIREE


We love seeing the items you have bought at Browns ASR Auctions in your home and your daily lives. Whether they are part of a period restoration, an addition to a lifelong collection or an upcycled bedside cabinet, we love seeing how you use them.

And now, there is no better time to send us your pictures as we are offering the chance to win a week’s stay in a three bedroom holiday house on the beautiful Isle of Tiree.  Known for its stunning sandy beaches and turquoise sea, Tiree is a surfers’ paradise and dubbed the Hawaii of the North!

The draw will be on 31 August 2021 and the lucky winner can book a week’s holiday in 2 Mannal, Isle of Tiree from 30 September 2021 – 30 April 2022, subject to availability.

Browns Auction spring into action


Antique furniture attracted strong prices with an impressive Oak Roll Top Desk, estimated at £250 – £350, drawing keen interest and realising over £1,500.  A George III Oak Dresser Base, (est £150 – £250) invited interest on the phone before selling to the internet for £1,000 and a Victorian Mahogany Draughtmans Style Table had several phone bidders, realising £530 (estimate £150 – £250).

An Oak Extending Dining sold for double its market estimate for £510 and a Set of Six Victorian Mahogany Dining Chairs sold for 3 times its estimate for £340.

The knife section proved popular with the Puma of Germany, Rodemann Hunting Knife realising over £600 and Puma of Germany, “Buddy Knife” realising £510 with another Puma of Germany, Bowie Knife realising £460.

Jewellery continued to be popular with String of Antique Butterscotch Natural Amber Beads selling for over £600 and a pair of 18ct White Gold Gemstone and Diamond Cluster Earrings realising £190 from a £80 – £120 estimate.

April Auctions


April sees auctions recommencing at Browns ASR in Jedburgh with the Antiques & Collectables Auction on Saturday 10 April and the Affordable Auction (6 – 11 April).  Both catalogues are now live at brownsasr.co.uk. (- link to brownsasr.co.uk/auctions) 

The Antiques & Collectables includes 20 lots of sporting knives, such as Lot 79, Linder of Germany, “Arkansas Toothpick” Two Hunting Knives (est. £100 – £150) and Lot 72 Schrades Scrimshaw Folding Hunter Pocket Knife (est. £50 – £70). 

Notable pieces of jewellery include Lot 2, String of Antique Butterscotch Natural Amber Beads, estimated at £300 – £400 and a stunning 9ct Gold Aquamarine & Diamond Ladies, estimated at £130 – £150. 

Local artist, Tom Carr, has two etchings, “The Ditch” and “Len in Itere Drais!”, estimated at £150 – £200 and £100 – £150 respectively and Lot 153 portrays “Melrose Abbey” by William Heatlie (1848-1892).

Among the furniture, Lot 198, a Chesterfield Ox Blood Leather Three Seater Sofa, offers a great buy with an auction estimate at £200 – £300. 

In the Affordable Auction, running from 6 – 11 April, over 200 lots are on offer all with a £10 starting bid.  Some notable lots include Lot 2, a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee 2012 Commonwealth Proof Coin set, Lot 129 Five Matching Tan Hide Effect Breakfast Bar Stools, Lot 169 a Mandolin, Lot 187 Quantity of Walking Sticks and Lot 215 a Persian Style Runner.
