Affordable Art Goes Online

May 19, 2021

The upcoming Affordable Art Auction at Browns ASR Auctions, in Jedburgh, is set to showcase new work from Borders’ artists and beyond with a 10 day exhibition and online auction.

Lockdown has limited artists’ opportunity to exhibit and sell their work and it is hoped offering an online platform will open up the opportunity to buy original art especially with many people focusing on their home at the moment.

Forty five pieces will be auctioned, including acclaimed figurative artist, Julie Barnes, offering new work exclusively for the auction and Edinburgh based Cassandra Harrison putting forward the vivid Haymarket, exhibited earlier this year at the Visual Arts Scotland’s show “Flow”.  Berwickshire artist Gill Walton has recently finished a residency at Marchmont House and includes a striking portrait The Heron, an acrylic on aluminium.

A buyer’s favourite, Inverness based Martin Irish has 5 thought provoking mixed media pieces; A Shadow If Her Former Self, Dreaming Of Angels, Miles To Go Before We Sleep, We Saw Far And Wide But Now We Are Nowhere and Returning To A Place Half Remembered.  Other exciting works from the wasps Inverness artist’s include The Games Men Play, a spray paint on canvas by Robbie Mackintosh who has 5 street art inspired pieces included and Lost, an oil and acrylic on canvas by Lativan painter, Yelena Visemirska alongside another 2 pieces.

Scottish landscapes, unsurprisingly, feature strongly again and include Kelso artist David Hay’s Sea Loch and Hill Walk, Jedburgh artist Anne White’s acrylic on canvas paintings: Shimmering Sea, Scousburgh Sands, Shetland; The Beach, Luskentyre, Harris; A Beautiful Calm Day, Fidra from Archerfield, East Lothian; Living on the Edge, St Abbs from Coldingham Bay, Machair in Bloom, Hushinis, Harris, Sunset Over Loch Shiel and Subtle Sunset, Ruber Law and Duns based Lida Hatrick’s oil and oil pastel works.

Individual estimates for the work to be sold at the auction range from £75 to £1,500.

Ronan Brown from Brown & Turner said:

The art community has been particularly badly affected by the events of 2020 and 2021, with galleries closed and events where artists could have sold their work cancelled. Therefore, we are delighted to offer this exhibition and online auction of original work to offer artists another platform to showcase their work and give buyers the chance to view in person or online, and purchase some stunning pieces of affordable art.

An online catalogue detailing each of the pieces for sale available from the Browns ASR website and viewings are available from 24 May – 3 June by appointment.  An e – catalogue and more information on the work can be obtained by calling 01835 863445 or emailing info@brownsasr.co.uk
