Silver Card Case

This month we have collections from two Scottish country houses, including a dramatically set farm high above Kelso. The grand Georgian house was the part of a well known estate. Brown’s were asked to clear the contents which includes some fine Georgian and Victorian pieces. This includes an Irish mahogany table, with a heavy and well made central pillar and substantial claw feet.

We also have a private consignment of jewellery and silver, including a rather splendid card case, the exterior enamelled with a partially nude beauty, in the manner of the French 19th century artist Henri Rondel. A colourful novelty no doubt owned by a Victorian dandy.

Jewellery includes a diamond brooch from Hemmings in London, part of a wider group of attractive pieces. The owner apparently received a number of pieces from this well known city jeweller. The quality of the cut stones are well worth a look.

The sale includes a very rare sewing machine, the only other example the valuer could find is currently in an Australian museum. The case makes a handy and attractive stand for a marble bust or plant pot but hiding inside is a treadle and fore runner to the later Singer company machines.

There is as usual a large group of assorted ceramics, glassware, works of art and carpets to choose from. We encourage you to come take a look.
