Angus’ Highlights | October

Three cheers for Chairs! October sees the saleroom bulging with a wide variety of excellent places to rest your seat. From a Jacobean 17th century traditional Wainscott chair to an ultra modern Ekornes green leather settee, with everything in between.

Looking for a statement dining room? We have an excellent solid oak Jacobean revival extending dining table, the top set on impressively carved hefty legs, winding out on an excellent Joseph Fitter designed screw, and related to it a robust and comfortable set of twelve Jacobean revival dining chairs. These are all beautifully built and with well cushioned leather backs and seats will make any long dinner or meeting rather more of a pleasure. The Victorian furniture makers knew how to build things last.

Every sale seems to have a Chesterfield sofa somewhere out the back and this auction is no exception. This month however we have a wonderful example of the perfect ‘Shabby Chic’ vintage club Chesterfield. The well buttoned brown leather remains in good condition, but has that wonderful patina that leather sometimes achieves after a few years of use. Comfortable, attractive, with a frame better made than anything you buy new from a mass produced sofa company. This is the perfect sofa for an office coffee spot or a relaxing corner of your home. The dogs will love it!

As usual we have a wide ranging mix of stylish pieces for your home, including silver, art and ceramics. Looking for a vintage genuine Mulberry leather handbag? Walk this way. From our American cousins we can offer an extensive Alvin Maryland silver flatware service with a practical mix of spoons, forks and cutlery for up to twelve place settings. All set in an unusual leather zip case. Jazz up your dinner table with this good value sterling silver canteen. The US use 925 standard silver too, just not our ancient and effective hallmark system.

This month we also have the opportunity to sell the entire contents of a famous and large Scottish financial boardroom. A variety of William Hands Company furniture is available, including smaller board tables for 8-10….and also a huge 11.5 metre long table, which thankfully splits into manageable and adaptable pieces…so you can go the whole hog or divide into smaller units. Also included are Seventy Two identical William Hands Orion ‘Classic’ boardroom chairs. These are smart brown leather and chromed steel and in excellent condition. Most are less than ten years old and hardly marked. You can still buy these new for £1300 each. We have divided the group into smaller units of 8 to 12 chairs. They will smarten any office of waiting room in an instant.

A personal favourite this month are two large Victorian shop display cases. Mahogany framed with large glass windows, they would be excellent display cases for sculpture, ceramics or your taxidermy experiment! One cabinet is oval is designed to standalone. It used to hold displays of tartan and tweed, having been part of a very famous Scottish tartan weavers shop for many years. Both cases are a rare opportunity.

This month we have something for everyone’s budget, so drop in and take a turn round the saleroom, you may find hidden treasure.
