Architect’s Desk returns to the building it designed.

May 17, 2021
George III Mahogany Architects Desk

An elegant George III Mahogany Architects Desk, attracted strong interest in the room and online, realising over £2,000 when the hammer dropped.  The table previously belonged to Sir Joseph Paxton, the Great Grandfather of the vendor and famous for building the Crystal Palace, where the table will now return to.

Chinese pieces continued to prove popular with Chinese bidders.  A Chinese style Hardwood Open Bookcase had several bidders interested online, pushing the price over £1,200 when the hammer went down.  A Chinese Brass Koro, of cylindrical form with reign marks to the underside, realised £1,100 while a Chinese School circa late 19th/ early 20th century “Figures Round a Table, with Female Figures to the Foreground” watercolour on silk sold for double its auction estimate (£150 – £200) for over £350.

Antique furniture attracted strong prices with a Regency Gillows style Mahogany Sofa Table going to the room for more than double its estimate (£150 – £200) for £500.  An Oak Haberdashery Style Open Cabinet had several bidders online with the hammer dropping at £400 and an Antique Chippendale style Mahogany Armchair trebled its lower estimate realising over £300.
