Borders auction house, Brown & Turner is set to help 24 of the country’s contemporary artists target the Christmas shopping market through a special online auction on 14 November.

Coronavirus restrictions throughout the year have meant that artists have had fewer opportunities to show and sell their work and it is hoped that access to UK-wide and international markets through Brown & Turner’s online sales platforms will provide a vital boost in what would normally be a key trading period.

Seventy pieces from 24 artists will be auctioned, including two portraits by acclaimed Berwickshire artist Gill Walton, oil paintings by award-winning Kelso artist Neville Storer, beautiful mixed media works by East Lothian artist Julie Barnes and two pieces by Inverness-based street-art inspired Robbie Mackintosh. Other exciting works to be auctioned include Tiger’s Head, an exciting two-piece oil by Inverness-based Latvian painter, Yelena Visemirska and stunning equine and elephant oil paintings by Sophie Harden.

Scottish landscapes feature strongly in the catalogue of work and include Ancrum artist Siobhan O’Hehir’s Not Far from the Shore, Jedburgh artist Anne White’s acrylic on canvas paintings Seilebost HarrisGolden Sunset, Gullane and Sanna Bay, Ardnamurchan, Dumfries artist Ken Cowins’ acrylic on glass paintings Highland Glow and Skye in Winter, and Duns-based Lida Hatrick’s oil and oil pastel work Herriot Dyke-Greenlaw Moor

Individual estimates for the work to be sold at the auction range from £150 to £3,500.

Ronan Brown from Brown & Turner said:

The art community has been particularly badly affected by the events of 2020, with galleries closed for much of the year and events where artists could have sold their work cancelled. Christmas would have been a key trading period for many so we hope that this online auction will offer them another way to make a living, and give buyers the chance to see and purchase some stunning pieces of art from their homes.”

Viewings are now open and an appointment can be arranged by calling 01835 863445 or emailing info@brownandturner.co.uk. Browse and bid on www.brownandturner.co.uk/auctions.

Our May auction proved a diverse mix of old and modern, with Lot 161, a group of rather splendid local photographs, selling above estimate and proved to be a top lot in the sale yesterday.
