Hammer Highlights | September 23

September 21, 2023

The September Antiques and Collectors sale was a mixed bag of home furnishings, ceramics and works of art. Much collected in from removals and deceased estates in the Scottish Borders and further afield.

Highlights this month included a particularly attractive canvas by Anne Carrick, a local female artist with a growing following in Scotland. She painted both landscape and still life and it is the latter that she truly excelled. Lot 109 was a very seasonal offering,  Autumnal fruits and colours in a jug. Well conceived and in excellent condition, several collectors chased it to a pleasing £500 (including Buyer’s Premium).

In demand and ready for the colder months, Lot 140, a traditional leather and brass club fender proved a hit. This was a good large example and will provide comfortable seating beside a warming log fire for the lucky bidder, exceeding our estimate at just over £460.

Lot 225 was a truly lovely George IV mahogany tea table. Both practical, not too large and with pretty well figured  mahogany and attractive beading, it will grace its new owners home for many years to come. Fantastic value at £400, when compared to what you might by at a major furniture store for the same money.

Brown’s are currently seeking entries for the inaugural collectors sale of fine decorative arts, jewellery, art and collectibles, in addition to our usual monthly auction. If you have items you would like us to consider, do contact our office for a free professional valuation.
