Results from the Saturday November Sale

Over 370 lots went under the hammer in Brown and Turner’s auction of Antiques, Fine Art and Jewellery on Saturday. The highlight was Lot 106, a Japanese Export Lacquered Work Box with a quantity of Chinese Mother of Pearl gaming counters, mostly crested and bearing the signature “vi et copia”. The hammer went down at £2,400.

The lot, probably from the Meiji period, was consigned from Edinburgh and gained interest online with 4 internet bidders and 2 telephone bidders. The buyer is UK based and paid nearly 5 times over the estimate showing the growing popularity of Japanese artefacts.
