October’s Antiques, Fine Art & Jewellery Auction showed a buoyant market for jewellery in line with the rest of the industry.  Lot 101, Victorian Turquoise and Seed Pearl Mourning Brooch, went significantly over estimate realising £1,000 and Lot 100, an Art Nouveau Style Amethyst and Enamel Chain with Pendant, realised £660, 4 times over higher estimate.

Lot 206, Attributed to Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple, an Arts & Crafts Oak Three Door Wardrobe, was a beautiful piece and sold for double the market estimate, realising £1,700 and Lot 278, Queen Anne Style Walnut Cocktail Style Cabinet, realised £790.

Lot 117, an Imperial German Seitengewehr (Bayonet) gained a lot of interest and realised £270 (Estimate £80 – £120) while local interest in Lot 30, a Parian Ware Figure of Sir Walter Scott with his dog by Sir John Steell RSA (1804-1891) drove the hammer value to £320 from an estimate of £150 – £200.

Consignments are now invited for 14th November Antiques and Interiors Auction and the Christmas Jewellery Auction on 12th December.  Valuations continue to be offered at the Brown & Turner saleroom in Jedburgh, or by home visit.  Alternatively, images and details can be emailed to info@brownandturner.co.uk and video appointments arranged by calling 01835 863445.

The experienced team offer valuations for insurance, inheritance tax purposes and settlements.  The in-house removal teams on site make house clearances and moves much simpler – as part of a move different items can be valued and transferred to store, the Brown and Turner auction house and to new premises.
