Famille Rose Chinese Charger with floral and dragon painted design

“Attic treasures can be worth more than you think.”

An item could be worth a lot more than clients think and searching the attic could unveil a hidden gem that had been long forgotten.  Browns’ have seen items sell for a lot more than predicted.

“A Famille Rose Charger, that had been imported from China at the beginning of the last century and then passed to the vendor’s Grandfather in a game of cards, attracted a lot of interest.  The Chinese market has been strong for quite some time at auction and this piece depicted two polychrome Imperial five claw dragons, synonymous with the Emperor, symbolising his imperial power.  During the Qing dynasty the 5 claw dragon was strictly reserved for the Emperor’s use.  Six online bidders took the bid up to £23,000 and eight telephone bidders pushed the final bid up to £27,000 and gave the vendor a lovely surprise when they returned home from holiday.”
